Who We Are
Shagara works at the intersection of the professional arts world and the disability community, creating opportunities for people with disabilities to participate, create, perform, and be seen as an essential part of cultural life.
We develop and produce inclusive events, exhibitions, public art projects, and community programs while building partnerships that make those opportunities possible.

Inclusive Events & Programs
Community events, performances, artist-led programs, and social experiences designed to bring people together across disability and difference.
Public Art & Exhibitions
Murals, photography exhibitions, and other creative projects that create visibility, celebrate lived experience, and put inclusion into public spaces.
Partnerships & Community Impact
We work with other nonprofits, schools, businesses, artists, government agencies, and community organizations to develop and fund projects that create meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities.
“Shagara” comes from the Egyptian Arabic word for “tree”, reflecting a focus on building work that is rooted, intentional, and designed to grow over time.
Our Roots
Prior to founding Shagara, Carrie Ann produced inclusive arts events — including an open mic series and a fashion show — drawing hundreds of attendees and earning regional and international press coverage.
Shagara works with venues, cultural organizations, artists, and brands that are serious about inclusive programming — not as optics, but as practice.
